Introducing Dimmers

Whether you’d like to adjust your home’s lighting for convenience, security, or simply to set the mood, we’ve got you covered: Today, we’re adding a new functionality to the “Lights & Switches” section of the Dashboard, and also to “Hello, Home,” that makes it easier than ever to set your lights to automatically dim.

Lights & Switches
You’ll now see that when you configure any “Turn on…” use case for a light or group of lights, you’ll be presented with an option to “Set dimmers to this level.” By tapping on the arrow, you’ll be able to customize your lights to adjust to a brightness level between 10% and 100%.

Hello, Home
Similarly, when you use Hello, Home to customize the different things that happen when you tell it “Good Morning!, “Goodbye!” and so forth, you’ll be presented with an option to “Set dimmers to this level” when you choose to turn lights on or off.

  1. Hi just wondering if it was possible to set lights to fade on or fade off, rather than just switch to a set brightness, after an action take place? Example, as I walk from room to room the lights dim up in front of me and dim off behind me. This would be really cool and futuristic!

    • Its possible.. with the help of motion sensors to activate certain lights it can create a wave light effect. or looks like the light is following you.

    • Yes, in the app you can set dimmer switches to turn on or off over a time period that you set. I have the lamp next to my bed slowly fade on over the course of 10 minutes.

  3. This is a great feature! Thanks guys! I have created a new Hello Home function called “Movie time!” which turns off most lights in the house and dims the living room lights to 50% (Hue lights). Now I don’t have go into the smart things app and turn off lights, then go to my Hue app and dim the lights. One app, one button, and I am set to go. Sweet.
