Smart Home for the Holidays: Day 10

Milk and cookies are so 1999. Instead, plug your slow cooker into a SmartPower Outlet, place an oversized Christmas ham in there, and then use the free SmartThings app to cook it from anywhere.

Bonus points if Santa passes out in you living room afterward from a food coma.

Smart Home for the Holidays: Day 8

Step 1: Tell your kids that Santa always knows when they’ve been naughty or nice.

Step 2: Tell you kids that Santa will magically change the color of the (Philips hue) light bulbs in your their room to either green or red if they’ve been good or bad that day.

Step 3: For optimum results, we recommend not telling your children that Santa doesn’t exist, and that you’re actually using the Philips hue Mood Lighting SmartApp in the free SmartThings app to do this.

Step 4: Continue this parenting theme to encompass other holidays and mystical gift-bringing demigods, and watch as your kids blossom into model citizens.

Smart Home for the Holidays: Day 7

With so many stops between the North Pole and your home, Santa’s arrival time can be unpredictable. Until now:

Since a SmartSense Multi sensor can detect vibration, by placing one in your stocking, you can know the exact moment when Santa and his helpers deliver presents–ahem, or coal.

Day 6: Smart Home for the Holidays

Ensure that your little elves don’t try to unwrap their gifts the night before Christmas by sticking a SmartSense Multi sensor inside their presents. Since the device can measure movement and acceleration, if it detects that someone is jostling, shaking or trying to move it, it can send you an alert on your smartphone.

Day 5: Smart Home for the Holidays

Step1: Place a SmartSense Motion sensor near your Christmas tree or stockings.

Step 2: When the motion sensor detects movement after you go to bed, have it trigger your Dropcam to snap a series of photos and send them to your smartphone.

Step 3: Awake the next morning to find definitive proof of Santa’s existence.

Step 4: Sell photos to TMZ and use the money to enhance your smart home setup.

Day 3: Smart Home for the Holidays

By placing a SmartSense Motion sensor in your chimney or fireplace*, you can get a push notification on your smartphone when movement is detected and catch Santa in the (St.) Nick of time.

You can also get a push notification when movement stops. So if you set up your SmartSense Motion sensor near your tree or stockings, you can check the time between when movement started and stopped to see how long it took Santa to deliver your presents.

* – Please be sure to extinguish the fire first. The Motion sensor doesn’t like to get burned.
