SmartThings Releases App for Samsung Gear S

We’re excited to announce that the first wearable version of the SmartThings app is now available for free download: the SmartThings 1.0 for Gear S.

IMG_3020The SmartThings 1.0 for Gear S allows you to activate Hello, Home actions by either tapping the screen, or through voice recognition. It can recognize all of the preset phrases in the app, in addition to any custom phrases that you’ve set up. If you have multiple locations, you can also easily change your locations via the Gear S–which The Verge called “the most powerful smartwatch yet.”

To see SmartThings and the Gear S in action, take a look at this video of SmartThings CEO, Alex Hawkinson, doing a live demo of its voice-recognition capabilities on stage at the Samsung Developer Conference in November.

(Everything you see here is now available with this release.)

You’ll need the Android SmartThings app and an active account with a working Hub and location to run the Galaxy Gear app.

To install SmartThings 1.0 for Gear S, click “Get more applications” from your Gear S home screen. You will need to have the Samsung Gear Manager app installed on your Android phone. Once that’s installed, you will have the option to go to the App —> Samsung Gear App, and then search for and download the SmartThings app.

  2. Wake me up when they get Android Wear support. I realize SmartThings is owned by Samsung, but they make Android Wear devices as well. This Tizen app is DOA for most people, and so is Tizen for that matter.

I understand that ST had to put this out first due to the SS ownership, but can we get back to Android Wear now?

  7. It appears to work well but quite primitive it would have been nice to be able to see what mode you are in by maybe a little check box or a little. Or something I was very surprised when I looked at the fitness section in the apps at the marketplace I was quite sure that my gear s with hook to any fitness tracking program they had but to my surprise I surely didn’t see a place for my gear s what were they thinking
