Try This: A Window That Can Save You Money

I put a sensor on my window that turns off the thermostat when it’s opened.”

If your parents used to ask “Are we cooling the entire neighborhood?” whenever you opened a window during the summer, get ready to wow them. Invite them over (make sure the air is on), then open a window and see the thermostat turn off the air conditioning. All you need are the SmartThings app, a Multipurpose Sensor, and a connected thermostat.

  • Use the “Add Device” feature in the SmartThings app to pair a SmartThings Multipurpose Sensor with your SmartThings Hub.

  • Use the “Add Device” feature in the SmartThings app to pair a connected thermostat from Honeywell or Ecobee with your SmartThings Hub.

  • Place the SmartThings Multipurpose Sensor on your window to act as an open/close sensor.
  • Use the “Thermostat Auto Off” SmartApp in the Marketplace section of the SmartThings app to configure your connected thermostat to turn off when the window is opened.
